The Econ MD: Optimizing your Financial Anatomy
The Diagnosis
Most doctors are taught to save lives, but we are never taught how to manage the wealth we create. We enter the workforce a decade late, burdened by debt, and are immediately targeted by a financial industry that views our high income as “low-hanging fruit”.
I am The Econ MD. I hold an economics degree from Wharton and am currently a practicing physician. I love what I do every day, but I’ve noticed that the medical system doesn’t just ignore financial literacy; it often relies on it.
High Income ≠ High Net Worth. If your financial “vitals” are neglected during your peak earning years, the long-term prognosis is burnout and a loss of professional autonomy.
The Approach
This publication is designed to be the signal in the noise, organized into three strategic layers:
The Encyclopedia (Foundational Knowledge): You cannot optimize a system if you do not understand its components. This is our living dictionary of financial terminology, translated from “Finance Speak” into plain English. From backdoor roths to 457b deferred compensation, this is where we define the vocabulary of wealth.
The Briefing (Market Telemetry): Your executive summary of the macro-economy. We filter the noise of the market (inflation, yields, tax policy) to isolate the key indicators that actually impact high-income professionals.
The Models (Strategic Analysis): Deep dives into high-stakes career decisions, supported by financial modeling. We don’t just discuss the cost of academic prestige or the “rent vs. buy” debate—we build the quantitative tools to prove it. These are the interactive calculators and math missing from your training.
Why Trust The Econ MD?
I am not a financial advisor, and I don’t sell insurance. I am a fellow physician who spent four years at Wharton before ever picking up a stethoscope. My goal is simple: To give my colleagues the diagnostic tools they need to ensure their financial health.
